Enescu’s generosity was always addressed to wardshelping and promoting Romanian artists. The programme of the concert Enescu and Romania was selected in the same vein. George Enescu’s activity in Romania was first and foremost connected to conducting, then to violin performance and, last but not least, to music composition. It is in this country that he conducted many local premieres of works from the international repertoire, while always promoting Romanian composers, that were also included in his concert programmes. Moreover, he founded and funded (1913-1946) The George Enescu Prize in Composition, as well as the performance of winning works in concerts.

The fourth concert of Academia Sighișoara 2016 brings an interesting programme: besides works by George Enescu and his contemporary Richard Strauss we were delighted to listen to two Romanian composers' pieces, from two different generations. The Sonata for violin and piano by Irina Odăgescu-Ţuţuianu was performed by Mioara Moroianu (violin) and Vinciu Moroianu (piano), the Cosmic Scenes for Clarinet, Cello and Harp by Aurelian Băcan was specially written for Academia Sighișoara and dedicated to the artists premiering the work: Stéphane Giampellegrini (cello) and Marie Trottmann (harp).
